THOMASVILLE —
Three males were denied bond Friday on murder and armed robbery charges, while aggravated assault and possession of a firearm have been added to offenses.
Thomas County Magistrate Mark Mitchell denied bond for Dezmond Lamar Lovejoy, 21, and Xavier Rashard Jones, 17, both of Thomasville, and Jalen Rauls, 17, Meigs.
The suspects are charged with the Tuesday night shooting death of Christopher Crumbry Jr., 15, an Orlando, Fla. resident, who had been visiting his father in Thomasville since early July.
The teen was to have returned to his Florida home today.
Crumbry was shot in the head in the 700 block of Fletcher Street near Fletcher’s intersection with Dowdell Street.
Gwen Mack, a Fletcher Street resident, has been spearheading the distribution of black ribbons in her neighborhood to bring attention to violence and to stop the activity.
“That’s settling it a little bit,” she said Friday, in reference to arrests in the shooting death.
However, Mack said, parents of the deceased and parents of the accused are now part of a tragedy.
“Both sides lost,” she explained.
Mack is taking her anti-violence message citywide. She will continue to deliver the message throughout her neighborhood, but she also is taking it citywide.
“I’m having T-shirts made,” Mack said. “They’ll be ready Monday.”
The district attorney’s office has been involved in the case since shortly after the shooting.
Jim Prine, Thomasville-based assistant district attorney, said he and his associates will be preparing for an indictment in the case, but since Tuesday have been observing law enforcement work tirelessly to investigate the death and makes arrests.
“The cooperation among the law enforcement agencies we have here in Thomas County is really unique,” Prine said.
Law enforcement personnel are keeping the district attorney’s office informed and updated on the case, Prine explained.
