Garden clubs, gardeners set for Standard Flower Show

THOMASVILLE — Thomasville’s Garden Club members and local gardeners are gearing up for the 92nd annual Standard Flower Show, which opens Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Thomasville Garden Center, 1102 South Broad St.

Show hours are Friday from 1:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Sponsored by the Thomasville Garden Club Inc, the design entries will feature the theme, “On Broadway.”

Show chairman Helen Huddleston said, “The theme of the show is so fun and broad…it really gives designers lots of room for individual creativity.  Table Artistry designs include designs around the theme ‘Entertaining Before the Theater’ with the three categories: ‘Dinner Before the Show,’ ‘An Evening with Disney’ and ‘Matinee Lunch Before a Musical.”

Creative design categories are under the broad theme “Broadway Through the Decades’ with ‘The Roaring Twenties 1900-1940,’ ‘Twist & Shout 1950-1970’ and ‘Let’s Keep In Step: 1980-2000.’”

A fairly new and very popular event is the luncheon and fashion show, which is planned for Friday at 12:30 p.m. on the front lawn. The luncheon has been expanded to include more guests and tickets are available at the Thomasville Visitors Center.

The fashion show will feature downtown merchants and will precede the opening of the show.

A highlight of the show ribbon cutting is the performance of members of the Thomas University Jazz Ensemble.
