THOMASVILLE —
One of Georgia's leading private universities kicked off fall semester classes on Wednesday with many changes.
Thomas University has reached a record-breaking 1,100 and has grown tremendously over the past six years.
“We’ve actually grown around 70 percent,” said President Gary Bonvillian. “Our credit hours are 1,000 more than last year. That tells me something about the makeup of the class.
“We are definitely attracting more traditional students who typically come and take a full-time load.
“We have the largest online criminal justice program in Georgia. Six years ago, it had 40 (students). Today, we are the largest.”
Thomas University originated in 1950 as a two-year school.
“It then became a community college, then a four-year college,” Bonvillian said.
Now it is a university with many programs.
