The Thomasville Cultural Center will host another Pig Gig at the Thomasville Exchange Fairgrounds on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. This porcine feast features live music with Thomasville’s local band The Skinks and the culinary talents of Dr. Ed Hall, who is renowned for his barbeque pork and Brunswick stew.
The first Pig Gig took place in 1989 and was the brainchild of Mercer Watt, a longtime supporter of the cultural center. Hall and his wife, Sandra, (who currently serves on the center’s board), have always cooked for this fun event. Hall has been cooking barbeque since his days as a surgery resident at the Medical College of Georgia, where he was a founding member of the Southern Surgical Goat Roast and Confabulation, an event that served up an array of roasted goats, pigs, venison, turkeys and Brunswick stew to no fewer than 1,000 people.
Those who attend the Pig Gig get to taste the same delicious, smoky flavors of Hall’s cooking. If you like a little heat, you may venture to try his homemade barbeque sauce that he jokingly calls “Hall’s Hell.”
To sum the event up in Hall’s words, “This is a tremendous opportunity for the community to come out and have a good time. The food is great, the music is great and the company can’t be beat.”
