Drug agents staying busy

THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division continues to work toward eliminating drug activity in the area.

Kevin Lee, division commander, said it has made a few arrests in the last two weeks, including ones for marijuana, crack cocaine and morphine.

Roosevelt Holland Jr., 26, of 606 Westover Avenue, was arrested on Thursday.

“We received info he would be bringing a quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana to a business on U.S. 84 East,” Lee said. “We were told he would be in a white Cadillac and set up surveillance with an agent and a sheriff’s deputy.”

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled the scene.

There was a short pursuit, Lee said.

“The vehicle turned down Lucy Street and then the occupant fled on foot. He was caught by the deputy and the narcotics agent. Upon searching him, we found a sandwich bag containing marijuana in his pants pocket.”

The vehicle was searched and crack cocaine, worth approximately $100-$200, was found in the console. Five ounces of marijuana individually packaged for sale was found in the trunk, the commander said.

Holland also had $600 to $700 in U.S. currency on his person.

He was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, failure to report an accident with damage, fleeing and attempting to elude an officer, improper stopping on roadway, driving with suspended license, failure to obey traffic control and reckless driving.

He bonded out for $11,100.

Randolph Leroy Rogers, 51, was also arrested Thursday.

“We received information that he would be bringing a quantity of morphine to a convenience store on Smith Avenue,” Lee said. “We set up surveillance and observed him drive up in a brownish-colored van. He made a circle, like he was looking for someone, and then left.”

The vehicle was stopped and in plain view on the front seat was a pill bottle without a label that contained numerous pills, according to the commander.

“The bottle contained 70 morphine pills. They were his: he obtained them legally but had agreed to sell them, which was illegal. He admitted he was going to sell them.”

Rogers, of 822 N. Pinetree Boulevard Lot 27, is charged with possession of morphine with intent to distribute. He bonded out for $3,100.

Another individual was arrested Nov. 14 on drug charges.

“A sheriff’s deputy was doing routine traffic work when he came in contact with a white Ford truck with an expired registration,” Lee said.

“He conducted a traffic stop and identified Joseph Lee Plunkett as the driver. He noticed a used marijuana cigarette on the dash and Plunkett told the deputy he did not have a driver’s license, at which time the deputy asked and was granted permission to search the vehicle.”

Lee said the deputy discovered there was a warrant for Plunkett in Thomasville and he was taken into custody.

“He was searched and the passenger compartment was searched. An orange pill bottle was in the seat and there was a small quantity of off-white substance in it. A narcotics officer was called to the scene to assist in the search and found marijuana in a cigarette pack. In the pill bottle was methamphetamine.”

Plunkett, 25, of 180 Zebco Road, is charged with possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), possession of meth, driving with a suspended license, a probation violation, expired tag and no insurance.

He is still being held in the Thomas County Jail.
