Coolidge fire a ‘total loss,’ no injuries

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — Local fire officials say a Friday evening structure fire in Thomas County is a total loss, but no one was hurt.

Coolidge Fire Department Lt. Leo Smart said the fire was at an abandoned house, located at the intersection of Woodhaven and George roads just outside the city limits.

“It was a single-story house, approximately 1,200 square-feet,” he said. “According to the call report, someone saw the blaze, stopped to see if anyone was there and called it in.”

Smart was not at the scene but said he received a report Saturday morning from the responding lieutenant.

The call came in around 10 p.m. and six trucks, most from Thomas County stations, as well as area Rocky Ford and Autryville units, responded to aid Coolidge.

“There is no hydrant out that way so backup trucks came in to help with the water supply,” Smart said.

The structure was located on Woodhaven Plantation.

The lieutenant was told it was “fully involved” and the house is a “total loss.”

Smart was informed it took until approximately 2 a.m. Saturday to extinguish the blaze.

“We’re not sure how it started,” he said. “The cause and origin is undetermined at this time.”
