THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville man wanted in a Thomasville armed robbery was arrested Thursday at a Cairo motel.
Derrick Jerod Kemp, 32, of 324 Grady St., was arrested at a U.S. 84 motel about 1:25 p.m.
On Wednesday, Thomasville police offered a $500 reward for information leading to Kemp’s arrest.
The suspect is charged with the Oct. 22 midnight armed robbery at a Thomasville bank automatic teller machine.
“Information was received Thursday that Kemp was possibly in the Cairo area,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.
The arrest was a collaborative effort of Thomasville and Cairo police, Thomas County and Grady County sheriffs’ offices and the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
Lawmen converged on the Cairo motel, and Kemp was taken into custody without incident
“Officers surrounded the motel until they determined which room he was in,” Hampton explained.
Kemp was transported to the Thomas County Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment.
Information leading to Kemp’s arrest came from someone in the community.
“Thanks to some good police work and the cooperation of good citizens, we were able to get him off the street,” Hampton said.
