THOMASVILLE — A woman delivering pizzas was beaten by two men who demanded pizza, not money.
In another incident, pizza restaurant employees were robbed at gunpoint.
A 38-year-old woman delivering pizza for Papa John’s arrived at a residence in the 900 block of South Street about 11:20 p.m. Monday.
“Upon her arrival at the residence, she was confronted by two males in the driveway,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.
“The men demanded pizza. They did not want the money,” Hampton said.
When the woman refused to turn over the pizza, one man struck her, while the other attempted to get into the back seat of the delivery vehicle.
“She was struck multiple times in the face with hands and fists,” Hampton explained.
The woman managed to drive away and returned to Papa John’s on East Jackson Street and called police. Co-workers took her to the Archbold Memorial Hospital emergency room for treatment of her injuries.
Police are trying to determine who ordered the pizza. Investigators are tracing a cell phone number provided when the order was called in.
In another pizza-related incident, employees at Pizza Hut were robbed at gunpoint when they left the East Pine Tree Boulevard business at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5.
“They dropped the money bag and backed away as they were told to do by the perpetrator,” Hampton said.
The robber, who was wearing two masks and brandishing a black handgun, grabbed the bank bag and fled on foot.
Officers spotted the suspect nearby and chased him on foot. He got away and remains at large.
“According to witnesses, he tried to disguise his voice by making it deeper,” Hampton said.
A resident of a nearby residential area found a black mask and a and a red mask with a black hood on his front lawn.
Hampton said the armed robber was described as black, skinny, young and wearing all black with white lettering. The suspect was described as 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 and weighing 130 to 150 pounds.
Hampton said citizens should be aware of their surroundings.
“Try not to give anyone an opportunity to make you a crime victim,” he advised.
Citizens should report any suspicious persons or circumstances to police by calling 911.
