Boston drug probe expands outside Thomas County

THOMASVILLE — Search warrants have been executed at several Thomas County locations in connection with the investigation of a Boston pharmacy.

“It does reach outside of Thomas County,” said Kevin Lee, commander of the Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division.

The investigation is a joint effort by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Drug and Narcotics Office, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. attorney’s office.

The probe also involves determining if large sums of money have changed hands.

James Kevin Murphy, 31, of 936 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, a pharmacist at Boston Pharmacy, has been arrested and charged with trafficking hydrocodone, an opiate pain killer. He was denied bond and is being held in the Thomas County Jail.

Also being held without bond are Arnolfo Capistran, 23, and Myrtie Veanne Luna, 35, both of 453 Oak Ridge Ave., Boston. Both are charged with trafficking hydrocodone.

The case broke Friday afternoon when Lee’s agency received a tip that Capistran was dealing hydrocodone pills. Local narcotics agents stopped Capistran’s vehicle near Boston and seized 500 hydrocodone pills. Lee said the pills were in a bottle from a manufacturer that supplies pharmacies.

Officers went to Capistran’s residence, where they found Luna in possession of a bottle of hydrocodone pills.

“She did not have a prescription,” Lee explained.

State and federal lawmen have executed search warrants looking for illegal transactions and pharmaceutical-type medications, he said.

What has been found cannot be released. “We’re still going through the evidence,” Lee said Tuesday.

Recipients of drugs in the illegal transactions also will be investigated, said Lee, adding that his agency is assisting state and federal agencies.

“There is a high possibility there will be more arrests,” Lee said.
