THS student charged with battery on teacher

THOMASVILLE — A 17-year-old Thomasville High School student is charged with battery on a teacher and criminal trespass in a Thursday incident on the school campus.

A female teacher contacted the school resource officer about 3 p.m. Thursday about a student who would not leave her room.

“As the officer was walking to the teacher’s building, he saw Damian White following a male teacher to the teacher’s vehicle,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

White was arguing with the male teacher, the officer said.

The school resource officer took White to his office to discuss the situation with the teachers.

“The student attempted to leave the office,” Hampton said. “She (the female teacher) was in the doorway. He pushed her.”

The woman’s arm struck a support pole, and White left the building.

The resource officer went outside to bring White back to finish questioning him.

“He continued to be loud,” Hampton explained.

A third teacher said White punched a hole in a wall in her classroom.

Hampton said the situation with the student stemmed from the male teacher being in possession of White’s head phones.

“It all revolved around the headphones. He wanted his headphones back,” Hampton said.

White was released from the Thomas County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Todd Mobley, THS principal, could not be reached for comment.
