Bust nets $500 in crack cocaine

THOMASVILLE — A late night Grady County suspected drug stop resulted in the arrests of two suspects and the seizure of several hundred dollars worth of crack cocaine, Grady County Sheriff’s Office investigators said.

An undercover drug operation was conducted about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday that led to the arrests, Lt. Steve Clark, chief investigator, said. Approximately $500 in crack cocaine was seized.

Albert Davis, 20, of 14th Street SW, and Kenneth Dewayne Williams, 21, of Humble Avenue, were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

“We received a complaint and were conducting an investigation,” Robert Brice, drug investigator, said. “We noticed a vehicle and a person in the vehicle that matched descriptions we were given traveling on Wight Road. We were told the person was supposedly in possession of a quantity of cocaine.”

Clark got behind the vehicle and turned on his lights to signal to the driver to pull over, the investigator said. The vehicle refused to stop and, after evasive maneuvers, the pick-up truck was pulled over.

“Both subjects were removed and, as the driver was pulled out of the car, I saw what looked to be a pretty big chunk of crack cocaine in the passenger floorboard,” Brice said. “Another small piece was in the passenger door compartment.

“Typical dope dealers like to throw stuff out the window so we walked down the road about half a mile to the point where the chase started and found about $300 in uncut powder cocaine.”

Estimated street value for powder cocaine is $100 a gram, according to the drug investigator.

“This is the biggest crack cocaine bust we’ve had since we started the unit in July,” Brice said.

Williams was the driver and Davis was the passenger, officials said.

A representative at the Grady County Jail said both suspects had not been arraigned late Wednesday afternoon but expected them to be by the end of the day or some time Thursday.
