Thomasville Utilities to host Appreciation Day

THOMASVILLE — Thomasville Utilities plans to honor its customers with an annual Customer Appreciation Day Tuesday at Cherokee Lake Park.

The free event is 5:30 to 7 p.m. and all Thomasville Utilities City of Thomasville’s customers are invited to attend, Sherri Nix, director of customer support, said.

“We have approximately 14,000 customers,” she said. “We are fairly stable and, as growth occurs and new subdivisions are built, our utility customer base also increases.”

Thomasville Utilities is celebrating the 10th anniversary of CNS, which first began offering cable television and dial-up Internet service in August of 1999, according to the news release.

Today, it has expanded offerings to include HDTV, DVR or digital video recorders, high speed Internet, telephone service and more.

Various departments will have displays, hands on activities, a K-9 demonstration and free giveaways at the appreciation day.

“We leave it up to each department as to what it would like to bring to the event,” Nix said. “In addition to CNS, the electric, solid waste, police, main street and tourism, natural gas, Rose.net, planning and zoning, and public works departments will have displays. We value our customers and encourage them to stop by to ask questions and learn more about our various services.”

The month of October is also public power and natural gas month, Nix said.

Tim Weaver, natural gas superintendent, said his department plans to bring a display of gas meters and instruments staff use when locating gas lines or looking for leaks.

“We’re also bringing information on the new tankless water heaters and on the natural gas rebate program. Our booth will be manned with staff to answer questions from existing customers and from those interested in gas services.”

In honor of 10 years of serving the Thomasville community, CNS will be giving away a 32-inch HDTV. Customers may register to win the television during the event.

Free chili dogs and hot dogs from the Billiard Academy will be available for customers at the event, staff said.

“The Thomasville Utilities and city staff look forward to meeting our customers each year,” Nix said. “We hope they will come out and ask any questions they have about our services and enjoy a nice time at the park.”
