Marshals locate missing juvenile

THOMASVILLE — The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force located a missing juvenile late Wednesday night in the 400 block of West Webster Street in Thomasville.

The Task Force was contacted midafternoon Wednesday by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office in Eastman for assistance after developing information that pointed to the juveniles possibly being in this area.

According to Lt. Donald Helm, two juveniles, 16-year-old Jamila Roberson and 17-year-old Hermina Brown, disappeared from the campus of Dodge County High School on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Helm had been working the case non-stop since the disappearance. The case changed from a run-away investigation into an abduction investigation when a schoolmate received a text message from Roberson saying she was being held against her will by two white males in an abandoned house, said Marty R. West, Tallahassee, Fla.-based deputy U.S. marshal and task force member.

Because of the nature of the information the sheriff’s office received, Dodge County officials contacted U.S. marshals for assistance in locating Roberson and Brown.

“U.S. marshals and Task Force officers responded from Tallahassee and along with the help of the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office and the Thomasville Police Department located Jamila Roberson within hours of the request,” West said.

Interviews of residents of the house where Roberson was found showed she had no known family ties to the residence. Roberson might have been picked up in the Macon area sometime last week and willingly transported to Thomas County, according to West.

Brown was found in Macon Thursday afternoon.

U.S. Marshal Dennis Williamson said the “outstanding cooperation between the federal, state, and local agencies working this case brought about the safe return of Jamila Roberson last night.”
