THOMASVILLE — Monday

11 a.m. — The Alzheimer’s/dementia Family Caregiver Support Group meets at Plantation Manor. This month’s program is ‘Pamper the Caregiver’ and features Dr. Charlene Parrish of Sweet Basil’s discussing aromatherapy, massage and relaxation techniques. For more information call Betty Sawyer or Gail Lancaster at 227-0880.



Tuesday

1 p.m. — The Southwest Georgia Retiree Sub-council of the Ft Benning Retiree Council meets at the Thomas County Public Library. It is open to all retired military.

6 p.m. — Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in the Guild Room. There are no dues or fees and is open to men and women. For information, call 229-226-0556 or 377-4995.



Thursday

10 a.m. — Golden K Kiwanis Club meets at Dawson Street Baptist Church.

12:30 p.m. — The Thomasville Rotary Club meets at the Plaza.

5:45 p.m. — Early bird Bingo games, sponsored by the Kouncil Club of Thomasville, are at St. Augustine Catholic Church social hall. Regular Bingo sessions begin at 6:45. Prizes awarded and proceeds go to local charities of southwest Georgia.



Friday

12:30 p.m. — Thomasville Kiwanis Club meets at the Plaza.

Southwestern State Hospital retirees meet for lunch at 11:45 a.m., Monday, May 7 at O’Neal’s Country Buffet. For information, call 226-6745.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Mondays at Parker Place, 125 E. Monroe St., which are closed meetings; open meetings are held at 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Thomas County branch of NAACP holds its monthly meetings at 6 p.m., are the second Thursday of each month at the Frederick Douglass Complex.

Members of the Thomas County Democratic Party meet at 6:30 p.m., the first Tuesday of every month at the Meeting Place on Gordon Avenue.

The Thomasville Multiple Sclerosis self-help group meets at 6 p.m., the third Tuesday of every month in the Flipper Room at the Thomas County Public Library. The meeting is to bring area people together to discuss their issues in coping with the disease and the organization. Family members and caregivers can attend. The Country Hoedown, formerly known as The Meigs Country Hoedown, is at the corner of Sapp and Burnum (Mt. Olive Road), in Pelham every Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. There is live country music for line and couple dancing with no door charge but donations are welcome. Thomasville Masonic Lodge No. 369 meets on second and fourth Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

Plantation Manor Assisted Living Community seeks volunteers of all ages for its Gracious Living (Alzheimer's/dementia) wing. The volunteers will assist with the activities program. For information call Gail Davis, Betty Sawyer or Gail Lancaster at 227-0880.

Parents of children from infant to five-years-old can attend a weekly meeting to discuss the joys and frustrations of parenting. A parent educator is available to help parents learn effective methods of communication and discipline as well as how to take care of themselves while caring for children. The group meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays at the Thomasville Community Resource Center. For information or to register, call 226-5846. There is no charge for the class.

The Thomasville Noon Lions Club meets at noon the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Plaza.

VFW Post 4995 and its auxiliary meet every third Thursday at 7 p.m. at the post home at 1296 Old Cassidy Rd.

VFW Post 8433 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Roddenbery Memorial Library Annex in Cairo.

Alcoholics Anonymous (Grace Group) holds a closed meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 216 Remington Ave.

Hands and Hearts for Horses, a therapeutic riding program for children and adults with disabilities, is in need of volunteers. Volunteer training classes are held the first Monday of every month. For information, call Kirsten at 551-0086.

The Pilot Club holds a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m., the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Plaza.

The James Hicks American Legion Post No. 519 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday at the American Legion home on Hopkins Street. The executive committee meets at 7 p.m. the Tuesday preceding the monthly meeting.

The Cairo Alanon Family Group offers help and hope. No fees, dues, or registration required. A six week series of meetings for newcomers begins at 7 p.m., April 12 at 3351 U.S. Hwy. 84 East, Cairo.

Cairo AA group meets at 8 p.m. Fridays with an open speaker, Sundays with open discussion, and Mondays with closed discussion. All meetings are held at 5531 U.S. Hwy. 84 east.

The VFW Post No. 11088 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the senior center on Stevens Street.

Halcyon Home provides outreach support groups for victims of domestic violence. For information, call 226-6666 for location and time.

S.P. Jones Lodge No. 118 F&AM PHA meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. at 518 Lester St.
