THOMASVILLE — A Grady County Sheriff’s Office investigator was returning to Cairo from Thomasville Wednesday night when he learned a suspect in a drug case, a Whigham man, was leaving Grady County and headed for Thomas County, possibly Ochlocknee.
The officer, who had pursued a robbery suspect to Thomasville, asked Thomas County authorities to stop David Kennedy, who would be driving a blue Nissan Altima and accompanied by a passenger.
“Grady sheriff’s office was closer to them. We told them to stop them, and we would assist them,” said Kevin Lee, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander.
Officers lost the Nissan in Ochlocknee in the Dollar Store Road/Ga. 3 area.
When they saw the Altima again, it was being driven by a woman. Kennedy was not in the vehicle.
The woman, Christin Johnson, a Coolidge resident, told officers she had dropped Kennedy off at an Ochlocknee residence. Lawmen found Kennedy outside the house.
“We also found a small quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana on the ground where he was. We knew the drugs had just been put there. The drugs were dry. The ground was wet,” Lee said.
Meanwhile, Johnson, 23, of 152 Penny Lane, Coolidge, had concealed a plastic bag of contraband in a body cavity. Lee said the bag contained 11 Darvocet pills and a small amount of marijuana. She is charged with possession of Darvocet and misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Kennedy, 30, of 471 Whigham Road, Whigham, is charged with methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute and misdemeanor marijuana possession.
“We’re familiar with them. We’ve had dealings with both of them,” Lee said.
