Drug arrest precedes car chase

THOMASVILLE — A suspect was in custody in a drug case when another individual fled the scene and took narcotics agents on a ride.

Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division agents learned about a drug delivery that was to be made at a business at the 84 bypass and Ga. 3.

Officers were looking for a car that was to deliver marijuana and cocaine and were watching when a vehicle fitting the description arrived.

Anthony Cortez Dent, 42, of 4084 Pine St., Ochlocknee, got out of the passenger side of the vehicle and approached a woman sitting in a car at the business.

Agents also approached the car and saw two bags of marijuana and a bag of powder cocaine in the vehicle, said Kevin Lee, commander of the Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division.

The woman also was arrested. She was released when Dent told officers the cocaine and marijuana belonged to him.

The contraband had not been passed to the woman, Lee said.

Dent is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and marijuana possession with intent to distribute.

The person driving the car in which Dent arrived got into the vehicle and sped away.

“The car swerved out into oncoming traffic on the bypass and tried to get away from agents,” Lee said.

With blue lights and siren activated, agents chased the vehicle to Cassidy Road, where the driver, Monkeith Samuel, 31, of 206 Henderson St., was captured.

Samuel is charged with felony eluding police, running red light, running stop sign, reckless driving and obstruction of officer.
