Dixie man charged in meth bust

THOMASVILLE — A Dixie man who has served two prison terms for drug convictions and is on probation in a methamphetamine conviction is back in jail in another meth case.

David Herndon, 51, is being held in the Thomas County Jail on methamphetamine possession. In the same case, components for a meth lab were found at the suspect’s Brooks County residence at 6330 Barwick-Dixie Highway.

Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division agents were waiting when Herndon, driving an older-model brown Ford truck, arrived at a Ga. 122 convenience store near Pavo.

Agents found meth in two places in a tool pouch in the truck.

“We had been getting information he had been cooking methamphetamine at his residence on the Barwick-Dixie Highway in Brooks County,” said Kevin Lee, narcotics/vice chief.

Brooks County authorities met agents at the house.

“Throughout the residence and in a barn behind the residence, we found numerous components used to manufacture methamphetamine,” Lee said.

Among the meth lab components officers found were black iodine, ephedrine pill wash and tincture of iodine.

“We found where he had converted his tincture of iodine into black iodine,” Lee explained. “It turns liquid iodine into crystallized iodine.”

Herndon has served Georgia prison terms for possession of opiates and possession of methamphetamine.
