Several injured in Grady car wreck

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — A two- vehicle collision late Friday in Cairo resulted in some occupants having to be life-flighted to an area hospital, officials said.

Grady County Sheriff Harry Young said he did not work the incident, but was able to obtain some information about it.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:17 p.m. on Ga. 112, he said. There were two passengers in one car and four in the other.

Two were life-flighted, the sheriff said, and others were taken to area hospitals.

Georgia State Patrol Post 12’s Sr. Trooper Bobby Underwood explained what happened using the responding trooper’s incident report.

“Vehicle number one, a 1998 Ford Taurus, was traveling north on Ga. 112 and vehicle number two, a 1999 Toyota Corolla, was traveling south on Ga. 112,” he said. “Vehicle one attempted to pass another vehicle and struck vehicle two head on.”

Underwood verified that a couple of passengers were life-flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and others were taken to area hospitals.

All involved in the incident were from Cairo, Camilla or Whigham.

Vehicle one had four passengers, one 19-year-old female driver and three 18-year-olds, two females and one male; vehicle two was occupied by a 63-year-old female and a 28-year-old female driver.

Names have not been released and Underwood had no updates on the conditions of those taken to the hospital.

The driver of vehicle one is excepted to be charged with failure to maintain lane and passing in a no-passing zone, according to the incident report.

A passenger is expected to be charged with a seat belt violation.
