THOMASVILLE — A man who took lawmen on a high-speed chase through downtown Ochlocknee faces a number of traffic charges.

In addition, a probation warrant was issued Wednesday for the suspect, Michael Chad McMillon, 25, of 217 Lee White Road, who is in the Thomas County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Thomas County E-911 contacted the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office Monday night about McMillon cutting his upper arm, getting into a green Ford F-150 pickup truck and heading toward Maddox Road.

Two deputies and a Thomasville Post 12 Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to stop the truck near the intersection of Dollar Store and Maddox roads. The pursuit began when the traffic stop failed.

A sheriff’s office incident report shows McMillon did not stop at a stop sign at Ga. 3 and turned south onto the highway, traveling in a northbound lane “even when approaching hills and curves.”

As McMillon attempted to pass a tractor-trailer in downtown Ochlocknee, he ran oncoming vehicles off the road.

“It appeared he was trying to hit the vehicles head-on,” the report shows.

Deputies allowed the trooper to take over. At speeds of 85 to 90 miles per hour in the small town, the trooper tried to catch up with the pickup, which again passed several vehicles including a tractor-trailer on a curve approaching a hill.

The trooper attempted a maneuver to stop the truck but was unable to because of traffic and road conditions. Eventually, the trooper disabled the truck as it turned onto Meadow Lake Road.

McMillon continued to try to get away when deputies and the trooper told him to turn off his vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment of the laceration on his arm.

McMillon is charged with reckless driving, passing on a double yellow line, fleeing and attempting to elude, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to yield after a stop sign and passing a vehicle within 200 feet of oncoming traffic.

The suspect was sentenced to prison in 2001 on a child-molestation conviction. He served six months in 2008 in the Thomas County Jail for violation of probation on the child-molestation conviction.

The probation warrant issued Wednesday is in connection with the child-molestation conviction.
