Cairo residents charged with cocaine trafficking

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County/Thomas-ville Narcotics/Vice Division agents intercepted a powder cocaine delivery that originated in Cairo and was destined for a Thomasville residence.

Following a tip, agents were waiting for the gray-blue Taurus they had been told Octavan Maurice Teal would be driving to make the delivery.

A Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputy and agents were waiting when the Taurus approached the Ochlockonee River bridge on U.S. 84 West late Tuesday afternoon.

“A female was in the passenger seat. It appeared Teal was passing something to the female,” said Kevin Lee, narcotics/vice commander.

The woman, Erica Lynn McFadden, appeared to be nervous. Lee said it appeared she had something hidden in her pants.

Lee said McFadden reached into the waistband of her pants and removed an ounce of powder cocaine.

Teal, 24, of 633 Mathis Road, Cairo, and McFadden, 18, of 960 11th St. N.W., Cairo, are charged with cocaine trafficking. Both were denied bond and are being held in the Thomas County Jail.

Teal told agents he has served prison time for a drug conviction.

“They told us the cocaine came from Cairo, but they would not reveal the source,” the commander said.
