Woman indicted in 2007 child death

THOMASVILLE — A 47-year-old Thomasville woman has been indicted in the December 2007 death of a 6-year-old child.

A grand jury indicted Tracy Lane Mezatastra on one count of first-degree homicide by vehicle and two counts of driving under the influence in the Dec. 2 incident.

February 2008 lab tests results showed Mezatastra was under the influence of cocaine when the truck she was driving struck the boy at the Old Boston Road RV park where she lived.

She also was charged with driving under the influence at the time of the incident.

Witnesses told Thomas County Sheriff’s Office investigators the boy, Cameron McClure Russell, was playing in the park on Sunday afternoon when Mezatastra drove away from her mobile home and cut through RV park lots.

The boy, a first-grader at Garrison-Pilcher Elementary School, was pronounced dead at a Tallahassee, Fla., hospital about 90 minutes after being struck.
