Pistols, fake $10 bill among items taken from vehicles

THOMASVILLE — A number of Summerhill Road area residents were in for a surprise when they approached their vehicles Saturday morning.

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office logged 11 incidents of vehicles being entered Friday night or Saturday morning. More than one vehicle was entered at some residences.

Some of the vehicles were locked. Others were not.

Cash and a set of spare keys were taken from a vehicle on which the windshield was broken.

A man went outside about 4 a.m. Saturday to see why his dog was barking, but noticed nothing amiss. When he went out to leave at 6:30 a.m., the man discovered two vehicles had been entered. Cash and a .38-caliber pistol are missing.

Two vehicles at another house were entered, but nothing was taken. Thieves also went away empty-handed at another residence where two vehicles were entered.

Four speakers were taken from an unlocked car, and a .22-caliber pistol and camouflage holster from another.

A fake $10 bill was taken from the console of an SUV.

Vehicles entered were on South Gate Drive, East Gate Drive, Woodwin Drive, Sunrise Circle, Wagon Wheel and DeChene Drive.

“We’re thinking the suspect wore gloves,” said Lt. Tim Watkins. Investigators are awaiting forensic reports on vehicles entered.

In unrelated activity, a man was gone from his residence in the 800 block of South Pine Tree Boulevard for 30 minutes Thursday. When he returned, tools had been taken from his van.

In Coolidge Thursday, a woman left a business after cashing a check and returned to her vehicle. Her wallet was missing from the car.

The woman told deputies her driver’s license, Social Security card, birth certificate, Medicaid card, $630 in cash and a food stamp card were in the wallet.
