Miscellaneous

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Mondays at Parker Place, 125 E. Monroe St., which are closed meetings; open meetings are held at 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ochlocknee Community Civic Club Inc., is holding its first Old South Green Market and Spring Fling on May 31 at the Old South Day Festival grounds, Spence Street, Ochlocknee. Flea market items, antiques, collectibles, yard sale items, produce, etc. will be accepted. Fees are $20 per rental space and participants are responsible for their own tables and accessories. A limited amount of tables are available for rent. Set up time is 8 a.m. for participants. Proceeds will benefit local projects. Deadline to apply is May 28. The descendants of Steve and Rebecca Singletary Bass will meet for their annual reunion on Saturday, May 3 in Ochlocknee at the community center. This is a change from the previous July reunion time. Family members should bring a basket lunch. Lunch will be served at 12:30. For information, call 226-5587.

The South Georgia Community Orchestra rehearsals are from 7 to 8:30 p.m., every Monday at the GIBB Thomasville Village community room. For information, call 226-4663.

The South Georgia Genealogical Society meets at 10:30 a.m., the second Saturday of each month is the Flipper Room of the Thomas County Public Library. For information, call 226-8001 or email Pinebarrens_thomasvillega@hotmailcom.

A newcomers orientation is held at 10 a.m. the first Tuesday of every month in the board room at Thomasville National Bank. Come and meet new people, learn about places to visit, things to do, activities, etc. A short walking tour of downtown will be offered. For reservations, call 226-3300.

The Thomas County branch of NAACP holds its monthly meetings at 6 p.m., are the second Thursday of each month at the Frederick Douglass Complex at 6 PM.

Families Anonymous meetings are at 7 p.m., each Monday at the Milton-Everett YMCA board of directors room. For information, call 224-0230.

The Thomasville Multiple Sclerosis self-help group meets at 6 p.m., the third Tuesday of every month in the Flipper Room at the Thomas County Public Library. The meeting is to bring area people together to discuss their issues in coping with the disease and the organization. Family members and caregivers can attend. The Meigs Country Hoedown is every Friday in the Meigs Community Building across from the post office. Gospel singing starts at 7:30 p.m. and ine dancing is from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. There is a variety of bands and singers. Soft drinks, coffee and snacks are available; no smoking or alcoholic beverages.

Thomasville Masonic Lodge No. 369 meets on second and fourth Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

Plantation Manor Assisted Living Community seeks volunteers of all ages for its Gracious Living (Alzheimer's/dementia) wing. The volunteers will assist with the activities program. For information call Gail Davis, Betty Sawyer, Shirley Midgette or Gail Lancaster at 227-0880.

Overeaters Anonymous meets at 11 a.m., Saturdays at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Cairo. For information, call Aileen at 762-4669.

Parents of children from infant to five-years-old can attend a weekly meeting to discuss the joys and frustrations of parenting. A parent educator is available to help parents learn effective methods of communication and discipline as well as how to take care of themselves while caring for children. The group meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays at the Thomasville Community Resource Center. For information or to register, call 226-5846. There is no charge for the class.

The Thomasville Noon Lions Club meets at noon the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Plaza.

VFW Post 4995 and its auxiliary meet every third Thursday at 7 p.m. at the post home at 1296 Old Cassidy Rd.

VFW Post 8433 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Roddenbery Memorial Library Annex in Cairo.

Alcoholics Anonymous (Grace Group) holds a closed meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 216 Remington Ave.

Hands and Hearts for Horses, a therapeutic riding program for children and adults with disabilities, is in need of volunteers. Volunteer training classes are held the first Monday of every month. For information, call Kirsten at 551-0086.

Thomas County Republican Party meets at noon at the Plaza Restaurant every third Tuesday of the month. For information, call 226-2160.

The James Hicks American Legion Post No. 519 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday at the American Legion home on Hopkins Street. The executive committee meets at 7 p.m. the Tuesday preceding the monthly meeting.

Cairo Al-A-Non meets at 8 p.m. every Monday in Cairo at 5531 U.S. Hwy. 84 east. For information, call 377-7873.

Cairo AA group meets at 8 p.m. Fridays with an open speaker, Sundays with open discussion, and Mondays with closed discussion. All meetings are held at 5531 U.S. Hwy. 84 east.

The VFW Post N. 11088 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the senior center on Stevens Street.

A fibromyalgia support group meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of every month at Morningside Methodist Church.
