THOMASVILLE — A home, tea with friends and raising money to benefit the community — it’s all part of the Archbold Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s 49th annual fund-raising tea, from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday.
The Archbold Auxiliary Tea is one of the auxiliary’s most popular fund-raisers and has become an annual event in the Thomasville community.
Each year, the auxiliary selects areas of need as the purpose for the fund-raiser. All proceeds from the 2008 tea will be used to purchase STAXI transport chairs for the emergency department and oncology center, and a colposcope, which will be used in the emergency department to collect evidence from victims of sexual assault.
This year, the tea will be at the home of Ron and Tammy Powell, located at 48 Fox Ridge Lane off Metcalf Road.
All woodwork throughout the Powell home, from interior doors to molding, was hand-milled in a special mill shop set up in the Powell’s carriage house. A solid oak, winding staircase in the mid atrium of the home and multiple layers of crown molding in the master bedroom are some of the examples of the craftsmanship in this home.
Each bathroom has a unique, hand-painted sink and granite and marble from floor to ceiling. The home also features five granite fireplaces and exterior doors made from 100 year old curly heart pine.
In addition to touring this unique home, attendees can reflect back to days gone by while admiring Mr. Powell’s antique trucks, a 1936 Ford V8 and 1953 Studebaker.
“It is an honor and privilege to host this auxiliary fund-raiser, which will benefit the hospital and its services,” said Mrs. Powell.
Since its creation, Archbold’s Auxiliary, a volunteer organization whose mission is to give its support and assistance to the hospital, has raised over $1.8 million to benefit John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. Last year, the group raised nearly $26,000.
