Florida students charged with theft

THOMASVILLE — A trailer with no lights led to a Thomas County traffic stop with a Florida theft connection.

A Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a Michigan-bound Chevrolet Trailblazer on U.S. 19 at Murphy Road near Coolidge about 8:30 p.m. Friday. The sport utility vehicle was towing a trailer that had no lights.

Approaching the SUV to talk to the driver and passengers, the deputy smelled marijuana. “They had conflicting stories about what was in the trailer,” said Lt. Tim Watkins, sheriff’s office chief investigator.

The driver told the officer there was no key to the trailer. A key was found in a suspect’s pocket.

Instead of furniture, which officers had been told was in the trailer, three motorcycles were found.

Two of the ‘cycles had been reported stolen in Tallahassee, Fla., in September 2007, and Jan. 20, said sheriff’s office investigator David Godwin.

“They’d all been hot-wired,” Watkins explained. The 2006 and 2007 vehicles are in the impound yard at the Jail-Justice Center.

Three of the four people arrested have Tallahassee addresses, but all are from Michigan, Watkins said. One attends FAMU; the others are students at Tallahassee Community College.

The origin of three laptop computers and two monitors in the students’ possession, along with the third motorcycle, also is being looked at in the investigation.

Officers said many motorcycles have been stolen in Tallahassee in recent months.

Charged in the case are:

• Cedric Porch Stringer, 19, theft by bringing stolen property into the state, misdemeanor marijuana possession.

• Brian Scott Jackson, 19, theft by bringing stolen property into the state, two counts theft by receiving stolen property.

• Aisha Lakeya Terry, 20, misdemeanor marijuana possession.

• Jeffery Lonnie Terry, 18, misdemeanor marijuana possession.
