THOMASVILLE — A four-hour firearms course designed for women is set for late April.
The event, sponsored by the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Jail-Justice Center conference room, 921 Smith Ave.
The second half of the course will take place at the sheriff’s office firing range off County Farm Road.
“The course is designed for women who want to learn about firearm safety,” said Lt. Tim Watkins, sheriff’s office chief investigator and firearms instructor.
The officer is Peace Officers Standards and Training-certified in firearm instruction.
There is no charge for the course.
Participants are asked to bring a handgun and a minimum of 200 rounds of ammunition.
The classroom half of the course will revolve around learning about firearms.
“We recognized there is a need in the community for the training,” Watkins said.
Pre-registration is necessary. Monday, April 16, is the deadline for registering.
Pre-register by calling Sherry Moore at 225-3315.
