Agents bust meth lab

THOMASVILLE — There has been another methamphetamine bust in Grady County.

The latest occurred at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at 606 Pope Store Rd., Cairo.

“Agents with the Southwest Georgia Drug Task Force executed a search warrant, assisted by the Grady County Sheriff’s Office,” said Capt. Tim Gainous of the sheriff’s office Friday. “This led to the arrest of six subjects — one was later released — on charges ranging from conspiracy to manufacture meth to child endangerment.”

John Wayland Thompson III, 29, 381 McGarrah Rd., Ochlocknee; Eric Lydell Taylor, 40, Jamie Susan Lewis, 27, and Lisa Gail Hughes, 24, all of 606 Pope Store Rd., Cairo; and Evie Grace Nichole Easter (aka Niki Henderson), 24, 227 Old Boston Rd., Thomasville, were arrested at the scene.

Gainous said four children occupying the home ranged in age from infant to 6 years old. They were taken into custody by the Department of Family and Children Services.

“Protocol to deal with children found in a meth lab from the Georgia Alliance for Drug Endangered Children — recently initiated by the Grady County Sheriff’s Office — was followed,” said Gainous. “This included a trip to the hospital for a complete medical examination by a physician.”

Thompson was charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth; Taylor and Lewis were charged with manufacturing meth; conspiracy to manufacture meth and four counts of child endangerment; and Hughes and Easter were charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth and four counts of child endangerment.

“The active meth lab was located in an old camper trailer behind the double-wide,” said Gainous. “Taylor indicated in an interview that meth had been cooked in the home in the past before the children moved in. A hazardous material team was called in to decontaminate the site.”

All five suspects were in custody Friday afternoon, but Gainous expected some to be bonded out by the end of the day.
