Man gets 40 years in molestation cases

THOMASVILLE — An Ochlocknee man was sentenced to four decades in prison in child-molestation cases that span five years.

Superior Court Judge Harry Jay Altman sentenced John Phillip Hill Jr., 42, in cases that occurred during the summer of 2005, and between 2000 and 2003.

Hill was indicted on nine counts. He entered guilty pleas to aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and three counts of child molestation.

The indictment shows six counts involved a girl under 16 in incidents that occurred between July 24 and Aug. 1, 2005.

A boy was the victim in three counts involving incidents that took place between Nov. 27, 2000, and Nov. 27, 2003, according to the indictment.

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation began working on the case early this year. Hill was arrested in mid-March.

Bond was denied, and he has remained in the Thomas County Jail since his arrest. Hill is awaiting transfer to the state prison system.

The female vicim was eight at the time of the molestation. A family member who became concerned about the girl’s behavior took her to a psychologist. She later was examined by a physician, who notified the Thomas County Department of Family and Children Services.

A sheriff’s office investigator said in March the female victim recalled incidents of molestation by Hill back to when she was six.

Further investigation led to cases involving the boy, who is under 16.
