Florida man surrenders in child molestation case

THOMASVILLE — A Florida man wanted since mid-May in a sex-crime case involving four teenage girls surrendered Wednesday.

Less than 24 hours later, Thomas County Chief Magistrate Andy Seery set a $40,000 bond for the suspect, David Demitriu Johnson, 2711 Allen Road, Tallahassee. Johnson remained in the Thomas County Jail late Thursday.

Accompanied by legal counsel, Johnson, 26, surrendered at the Jail-Justice Center about 4 p.m. Wednesday. He is charged with child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Johnson is a suspect in a case that came to Thomasville Police Department investigators’ attention on the morning of Sunday, May 14. Also charged with the offenses are Robert McCray, 24, and Olen Turner, 26, all of Thomasville. A fourth suspect, Rashad Jackson, 24, Thomasville, is charged with statutory rape and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

McCray, Turner and Jackson were denied bond.

A Thomasville woman learned her daughters, ages 15 and 16, had been out all night and were at a U.S. 19 North motel. The mother went to a room at the business, knocked on the door and men ran out.

Police responded and found alcoholic beverage bottles and two more females, ages 13 and 16, in the room.

Two of the girls were taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital for examinations. Trace evidence was gathered in both examinations.

Physical and trace evidence also was gathered in the motel room.

Capt. Troy Rich, head of the TPD investigations unit, said three of the males had some type of sexual activity with the 13-year-old, including sexual intercourse.

Jackson, McCray and Turner surrendered within a couple of days of the incident. Johnson was given a chance to surrender at the same time.
