CAIRO -- In fewer than 24 hours, law enforcement officers found the 25-year-old relative accused of raping a 7-year-old girl at their Grady County residence Tuesday.

Bond was denied Thursday afternoon for Rodolfo Lopez Velazquez, 25, of Cairo.

He is charged with rape of a child under age 10, aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy.

Grady County Sheriff's Office Investigator Steve Clark said GCSO took Lopez Velazquez into custody around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

A call from the Dooly County Sheriff's Office around 3 a.m. Wednesday notified the GCSO that the man they were seeking had been found.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation also became involved in what quickly turned into a statewide alert regarding the man's whereabouts.

Clark said GCSO responded to a call Tuesday regarding a mother who said her daughter had been sexually assaulted.

Deputies interviewed the mother and victim at the hospital where the child had been taken for surgery.

"She had pretty traumatic bleeding," Clark said.

The mother came home late and asked her daughter what happened. She spoke to the relative and found reason to believe he raped the young girl.

Clark said the victim appears to be doing well.

He expressed thanks to all the law enforcement agencies that worked together, including the Thomas County Sheriff's Office, which was also contacted.
