Golf tourney
The 14th Annual Veterans Express Bus Golf Tournament will be held at the Cairo Country Club on Saturday, sponsored by the Cairo-Grady County Employer Committee and Thomas Chevrolet. The tournament is open to all male and female amateurs, with individual and team entries encouraged. The entry fee is $60 per team member due at registration with handicaps.

Raffle
The Grady County Sheriff's Department is selling tickets for a Raffle to benefit the American Cancer Society. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 with the winner having their choice of either $500 in gasoline or a Stoeger 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun. The drawing will be held on May 4 as part of the Grady County Relay for Life. Tickets are on sale at the Grady County Sheriff's Office and by the sheriff's office employees.
Memorial
The Joey Maxwell Memorial Fund has been set up at United National Bank to help fund a scholarship for FFA members. Donations for the fund can be made at UNB or by mailing to: United National Bank, RE: Joey Maxwell Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 150, Cairo, GA 39828.
Childbirth classes
Grady General Hospital will be offering Free Childbirth Education Classes on Tuesday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 8th from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. To register, call the Birthing Center at 377-0276.
Benefit
Fitness Life in Cairo will be hosting a benefit fundraiser for Billy Godwin, a local resident who lost a leg as the result of a motorcycle accident recently, on Saturday at the parking lot behind the gym next to O'Reilly's Auto Parts. Several items will be for sale and live music will be provided by The Highway 93 Band from Cairo from noon-3p.m.
Spring Fling
Southside Elementary School's PTO will present its 2nd Annual Spring Fling at the school on Friday from 4:30 p.m.-7:30p.m. There will be a variety of games and activities for families with proceeds to benefit the school's PTO program.
Survivors Dinner
The Grady County Chapter of the American Cancer Society will hold its annual Relay for Life May 4-5th at the Cairo High School track. There will be a celebration dinner for area cancer survivors and their caregivers held on Saturday at Eastside Baptist Church. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner served at 6 p.m. All cancer survivors and their caregivers are invited to attend.
Gun raffle
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce is holding a “30-Day Gun Raffle beginning on May 1 in which it will be raffling off 10 shotguns, 10 pistols and 10 rifles. There will be 1,000 tickets sold for $30 each. To purchase tickets, or for more information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 377-3663.
Revival
Local churches in Grady County are joining together to sponsor a Community-wide Revival Sunday-Tuesday. The services will be held on Sunday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the CHS Auditorium and on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Family Worship Center. The special guest speaker for the revival will be Rev. Dr. Perry Simmons Jr.

The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the annual Administrative Professionals Day on April 25 from 12 p.m.-1p.m. at the Grady Cultural Center. The cost is $15 per person, which includes lunch and a chance to win door prizes. Call 377-3663 by Friday to make reservations.
Summer Fun
Registration is currently being held for the Summer Fun Program at Eastside Elementary School. The program is open to pre-K through 5th grade and includes full-day programs throughout the summer that includes education, entertainment, meals, snacks and field trips. Parents and guardians may register their child for the program at the Eastside lunchroom on school days between 3 p.m.-5:30 p.m. or by calling Dr. Nancy Andrews at 377-8373 after 6:00p.m.
Canned goods
The Grady County Relay for Life, to benefit the American Cancer Society, will be held on May 4 at the CHS Track. This year, instead of using sand to will their luminary bags for the relay, organizers are soliciting canned goods. All the donated canned goods will be given to the local food bank. The Cancer Society encourages you to help by placing your canned goods in collection boxes at Harveys, Piggly Wiggly and Walmart in Cairo.
Plant sale
The Cairo High School FFA is having its Spring Plant Sale and is selling vegatable plants and flowering plants at the CHS Greenhouse on Thursday and Fridays from 2 p.m.-5p.m. The vegetable varieties on sale include tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Flowering plants available include marigolds, salvia, impatiens, vinca and petunias. All proceeds will benefit the Cairo High School FFA program.
