Kathy Ulmer Womble

Services for Kathy Ulmer Womble are 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Johnny Moore will officiate and interment will follow in the Ulmer and Womble Family Cemetery on Shady Circle in Whigham. She was born Dec. 6, 1944, in Cairo, to parents A.A. and Kathleen Singletary Ulmer. She had one younger brother: Donnie Ulmer. Kathy was a proud graduate of the Whigham High School Class of 1962. She studied cosmetology at South Georgia Technical College in Americus. Kathy married Floyd Womble on Dec. 24, 1963, and they shared 46 years of happiness. They were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren. Kathy worked as a hairdresser in Cairo and Whigham for several years. She was dedicated to Whigham School throughout the years her children attended there, serving as a volunteer, substitute teacher and friend to the school. In recent years, she served as receptionist to doctors Hester and Steinberg of Cairo. She brought her joyful nature to all her endeavors. Kathy loved life. She was at home in nature. She enjoyed working in her yard, watching birds and wildlife, and communing with God in the woods. Kathy was known as a gifted cook and seamstress. She was a vibrant member of the Turkey Creek Community Club. Kathy loved music: singing, playing and listening. Her children and grandchildren will remember her as their loving and devoted Mama and Nana. Kathy loved her husband, family, friends and community, and was loved and will be missed by them. She died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, surrounded by her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Floyd Womble; children, Patricia Beach and husband Bill Beach of Thomasville, Gene Womble and wife Jenifer Womble of Cairo, Bruce Womble of Whigham and Susie Womble and Mike Willard of Hollywood, Md.; grandchildren, Justin Womble, Patrick Womble, Adam Womble, Lawson Womble, Brianna Beach, Maggie Womble and Emily Womble; brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Mary Joyce Ulmer of Whigham; and, her brother’s children, Sherri Vaughn, Donnie Ray Ulmer and Chad Ulmer. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents. The family will receive friends 3 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. — Clark Funeral Home
