Cora Lee Scott
Services for Cora Lee Scott, 95, are at 1 p.m., Dec. 26, 2009, at Providence Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member. The Rev. Dr. Emory C. Virgil Sr. will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Scott died Dec. 19 at Archbold Hospital. Born Jan. 1, 1914, in Thomas County, she was married to Marcellar Scott Sr. on Oct. 26, 1932 in Thomasville and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2001. Her formal education was in Thomas County and in Miami, Fla. During those years, she was spelling bee champion and discovered her love of reading. She was an unpretentious person with a pure heart. Her happiest moment in life was finding the Lord. An avid reader of the Bible, she learned through its teachings the power of prayer; in that prayer does change things and that her union with God has been her protection and solace throughout her life. She was a housewife and loving mother. She raised 11 children. She was a respected pillar of the community and oldest mother at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville, Ga. Her beauty, smile and vivid stories of wisdom, courage and humor will be missed by all who know her. She has a star named after her at the International Star Registry in Switzerland. She also received a congratulatory letter from an American president recognizing her birthday. For those that loved her the emptiness of not having such an angelic soul here on earth can be incomprehensible for she was the anchor of a family that benefited from her zest of life, love and lessons learned. Do not fret; as she ascends to heaven, her friends and family know she will be reunited with loved ones that have passed and that the trumpets are sounding for God is welcoming a faithful servant home. Yes. There is a joyful noise in heaven today because she has arrived. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Melvina and William Peterson of Rocky Mount, N.C. Ida Scott of Stone Mountain, Mae Scott of Thomasville, James Scott of Albany, Jessie Davis of Stone Mountain; son and daughter-in-law, Avon and Gloria Scott of White Hall, Pennsylvania; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Cindy Scott of Aberdeen, Maryland; Norman and Nancy Scott of Lithonia, Audrey Scott of Lithonia; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, Fannie Lois Everett, Rosa Everett and numerous relatives and friends.
