Graveside services for Frances B. Thomas, 83, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, are 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral services were held in Ogden, Utah, on Nov. 23, 2009. Mrs. Thomas died Nov. 18 in Ogden, surrounded by her pride and joy, her family. Born on Oct. 27, 1926, she was the first of nine children of the late Calvin Quinn and Eva Butler in Cairo. She married her sweetheart, Alton C. (Skeets) Thomas Jr. on June 1, 1945. Together, they had three daughters. She was a “southern lady” in every aspect. One of her many talents was being a marvelous cook. She will be well remembered for that and her ability to tell fascinating stories of her life in Georgia. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and spending time with her family. She loved people and was a friend to everyone. She worked many years as a seamstress in the sewing factories in the South. She also worked at Woolworths in both Georgia and Utah. Her last employment was at McBee Systems in Ogden. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding various positions. She spent her last years at Union Gardens in Ogden where she had many dear friends. Survivors include two daughters, Marsha (James) Pohlman of Roy, Utah and Myrt (Steve) Hyer of South Weber, Utah; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Parrish of Albany and Gwen (Lamar) Butler of Cairo; four brothers, Norris (Laverne) Butler of Ochlocknee, Judson (Carolyn) Butler of Metcalf, Claude (Pat) Butler of Quitman and Calvin (Butch) Butler of Metcalf; and, a dear sister-in-law Jean Butler (Julian’s widow) of Metcalf.
