Miles Tipton Clements Sr.

Services for Miles Tipton Clements Sr., 87, a longtime resident of Tifton, were at 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in the chapel of Albritton – Beaumont Funeral Directors. The Rev. Dr. Fred Evers will officiate and interment was in Tift Memorial Gardens. Mr. Clements died Friday, Oct. 23, at Tift Health Care Nursing Home. Pallbearers were Miles (Chip) Clements III, John H. Clements, Emory (Al) Clements Jr., James T. Clements, Stephen M. Clements, Joshua R. Clements, Jeffrey Dorman and Bill Clements. Mr. Clements was born July 27, 1922 in Sycamore, Ga., to Mr. R. W. Clements and Mrs. Cinnie Wynn Clements. He was preceded in death by his son, Wesley Walton Clements who died in 2000; a grand- daughter Angela Grace Clements who died in 1986; and six siblings. Mr. Clements graduated from Sycamore High School in 1941. Here he met and married his wife of 67 years, Esma Smith Clements. He served a tour of duty for the U. S. Army during World War II in Italy. Mr. Clements is remembered for his charitable and Christian service as a TRMC Auxiliary Red Coat, American Red Cross Walking Blood Bank, helping to start Calvary Baptist Church and Brother Charlie Rescue Center. He served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and church treasurer for Second Baptist Church in Tifton. During his working years he owned Tiftarea Egg & Feed, managed the Varsity Drive-In and the Bonanza Gift Shop. He then completed his working life with the Tift County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Clements truly enjoyed his civic work and charitable Christian activities along with his love as gardening flowers and vegetables which he always shared abundantly with family, friends and neighbors. Along with his wife Mr. Clements is survived by five sons and their wives, Miles T. Clements Jr. and Mary of Fairhope, Ala., Julian T. Clements and Lynne of Cornelia, Emory (Moe) Clements and Peggy of Chula, Thomas H. Clements and Gail of Thomasville, Robert C. Clements and Ellen of Cape May, N.J.; his grandchildren, Miles Clements III and Michelle, Christi Grimsley and Darrel, John H. Clements and Kelly, Dan and Kira Smith, Andy and Liz Smith, Stephen and Melinda Clements, and Roy and Stephanie Ferrell, Tommy and Serita Lindsey, Anna and Jeff Dorman, Al and Rachel Clements, Jamie Clements, Josh and Karrie Clements, Lauren Clements, Maggie Clements; and two sisters Mrs. Hazel Searcy, Mrs. Marlyon Peterso both of Tifton; and 18 great-grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Northside Baptist Church Building Fund, 4605 Murray Ave. Tifton, Ga. 31794.
