Fred Autrey Harper

Services for Fred Autrey Harper, 77, of Grady County, Ga., are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Long Branch Baptist Church, Cairo,Ga. The Rev. Gary Harper, the Rev. Rod Brinkley and Pastor Johnny Moore will officiate. Interment follows in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. Active pallbearers are Randall Beatty, Junior Harper, Bill Harper, Steven Howell, Hunter Harper, Mike Nix and John Melnick. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Joyner, Ronnie Ezell, Ricky Singletary, Gary Singletary and Steve Carlton. Mr. Harper died Thursday, Oct. 22 at Grady General Hospital. Born May 9, 1932, in Grady County, Ga., he was a son of the late Charles Wesley Harper and Vera Richter Harper. He was retired from the wholesale seafood industry and he attended Long Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Harper of Cairo; daughters and son-in-law, Karen Thomas of Cairo, Sharon and Flynt Johnson of Ochlocknee; grandchildren, Amy and Johnny Cumbaa of Whigham, Brack and Leigh Ann Dukes of Calhoun, Robert Douglas Thomas of Cairo, Peyton Marie Johnson of Ochlocknee, Reagan Kenslee Johnson of Ochlocknee; great-grandchildren, Logan Autrey Cumbaa, Andrew Braxton Cumbaa both of Whigham; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wesley and Vera Richter Harper; sisters, Foy Tilton, Myrtle Willis, Luva Howell, Martha Nell Bowman; brothers, Van Harper, Carl Harper, H. A. Harper, Wallace Harper, Albert Harper, Anderson Harper, Wayne Harper, Raymond Harper and Billy Ray Harper. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home.
