William Madison Kennington

Services for William Madison Kennington, 96, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at First Baptist Church in the Chapel. Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate, and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Kennington died Oct. 17, 2008, at Camellia Gardens in Thomasville. Born July 9, 1912, in Meigs, he was a son of the late William Jasper and Mary Lou Law Kennington. On Oct. 26, 1935, in Valdosta, he married Robbie Stanaland Kennington, who preceded him in death in 1988. He was also preceded in death by his second wife of 10 years, Leatha Anderson, in 2001. Mr. Kennington was retired from Sunnyland Foods, where he was senior vice president and general manager. He also served on the board of Sunnyland America. He was a member of Golden K, First Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. After retirement, he also enjoyed cattle farming and raising horses. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Susan Kennington Carlson and Arthur Carlson; daughter, Alice Kennington Scoggins; grandchildren, Stephanie Carlson Murray, Brooke Scoggins King and husband, Matthew King, Franklin Neal Scoggins and wife, Amy Scoggins and Meredith Scoggins Yeomans; great-grandchildren, Courtney Murray, Meghan Goodin, Madison, Goodin, Taff Goodin, Austin Yeomans, Riley Scoggins and Shelby Scoggins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2790, Thomasville, Ga. 31799 or to YMCA, P.O. Box 1037, Thomasville, Ga. 31799. Visitation is from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist chapel. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com. — Allen & Allen Funeral Home
