Jesse H. Pettijohn
CMSgt Jesse H. Pettijohn-USAF Retired, 87, of Valdosta died on Monday, August 17, 2009 in Thomasville. Born on March 24, 1922, in Gosport, Ind., he was the son of the late Jesse D. and Anna Hunsicker Pettijohn. He joined the Army Air Corps in August of 1940 and retired from the 3550 Field maintenance squadron at Moody Air Force Base in September of 1970. Mr. Pettijohn was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Harold Wayne and Jackie Pettijohn of Homer, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Denny Blair of Thomasville; grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and DeAnn Blair of Moultrie, Roslie and Chris Parrish of Gulfport, Miss.; great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Jessie Blair of Moultrie, Courtney and Kimberly Parrish of Gulfport, Miss.; sisters, Wilma Roach of Indianapolis, Ind., Allegra Woods of Gosport, Ind.; brother, Venice Pettijohn of Gosport, Ind.; cousins, Janice McHenry, Marilyn Truesdel, Margaret Sims, Joyce Couch; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Ray Bannister of Coolidge; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hugh Anthony and Mary Martin of Tallahassee, Fla.; nephews, Gordon Woods, Joe Pettijohn, Lamar Seay and Cle Bannister; nieces, Mary Cleary, Beverly Ricks, Susan Diatlovich, Amy Pettijohn, Sara Farmer, Teresa Hall, Catherine Chastain, Miranda Mullins; and special friends, Jerry and Shirley Vance of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Evelyn Pettijohn, and a great-nephew, Harley Hall. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Riverview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bob Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta.
