THOMASVILLE —
Thomasville City Scholars Academy students are encouraged extend their involvement and spirit of community service by cleaning out their closets and donating their gently worn jeans to the “Teens for Jeans” drive.
Donated jeans can be any brand and any size as long as they are in good condition. There is a box in the Scholars Academy Bulldog Café where students can drop off their jeans. All jeans will be donated to the local homeless shelter in the community.
Scholars Academy senior student Shamara Battle discovered this organization when she signed up for dosomething.org. She is getting the word out around school with flyers, the school website and the school announcements. Battle thinks that the collection is something the whole school could participate in. She says this is a small, but good way to help and give back to the community.
Teens for Jeans is an organization that helps over 1,000 homeless shelters across the U.S, Canada and Puerto Rico. Aeropostale and P.S. from Aeropostale have already encouraged more than 10,000 schools to donate their jeans to local homeless shelters in their community. The winning school receives $5,000 and each student in the school gets one free pair of Aeropostale jeans.
“One pair of jeans can help. This is like giving a piece of you to someone because jeans are personal,” said Battle.
Anyone in the Thomasville Community can also participate in this good cause by dropping off jeans at the Scholars Academy Friday.
