Emily Clara Atkinson

Services for Emily Clara Atkinson, 77, of Monticello, Fla., are at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Beggs Funeral Home in Monticello followed with a small graveside service at Salem Baptist Church in Pavo. Mrs. Atkinson died March 6. Born Aug. 12, 1932, in Pavo, she was a daughter of the late Buck and Ellie Owens. In 1953, she married Johnny Atkinson who preceded her in death in 1994. They moved to Monticello in 1970 where she remained living until her death. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmothr, great-grandmother and a great friend to many. She was a seamstress with the Apron Factory in Monticello for many years until her retirement to take care of ailing family members. She resided the last few years at Crosslanding of Monticello after her health started to fail. Survivors include two sons, Eugene “Geno” (Rita) Atkinson of Monticello, Dennis (Mary) Atkinson of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Carol (Dale) Ellerbe of Monticello, Fla.; two sisters, Lucille (Frank) Hunter of Monticello, Debbie Jean (Bobby) McDougale of Thomasville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, John Warren Atkinson; two brothers, Austin (PeeWee) Owens of Thomasville and Jerald Owens of Live Oak, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723-1 Mahan Center Rd., Tallahassee, Fla. 32308-5428 or Crosslanding Health and Rehabilitation Center, 1780 N.
