Martin (Marty) Clair Langmaid

Services for Martin (Marty) Clair Langmaid, 53, are 2 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Pine Level Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Weaver officiating. Mr. Langmaid died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in Cairo. Born Feb. 7, 1956 in Oregon, Ohio, he was a son of Clair Whitney Langmaid and Jane Eileen Pyle Engel, both of whom survive. On June 10, 1978, in Sandy Springs, he married Rosa Hamrick Langmaid, who survives. He earned his bachelor’s degree in horticulture from the University of Georgia in 1978. Marty touched the lives of all at Wight (Monrovia) Nurseries where he worked for 30 years, serving as the technical services manager. Marty also enjoyed a special bond with Rosa’s family for the 31 years they were married. He loved music and enjoyed playing the saxophone and wrestling in junior high and high school. In his spare time, he gardened and worked in the yard to maintain his property and home. Marty was also an avid cyclist who began Mountain Biking in 2001 and graduated to a road cycling machine. He participated in the Bike Ride Across Georgia for the past two years, which he enjoyed and trained for all year. He was a great son, brother, uncle, friend, husband and father who loved everyone around him and will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife, Rosa Hamrick Langmaid of Cairo, and parents, Clair Whitney Langmaid of Clarksville and Jane Eileen Pyle Engle of McDonough, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Lara Langmaid of Cairo; brother and sister-in-law, Andy Langmaid and Jeanette Hamilton of Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Bob Smith of McDonough; and, a host of nieces and nephews. The family is requesting memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
